With Any Alarm System An RJ-31X Telephone Interface Is Recommended. This Ensures That
The Burglar Can Not Take Your Telephone Off The Hook And Prevent Your System From Dialing
Out.
NOTE: Your House Phone Wires May Not Be The
Standard Red-Green-Yellow-Black, Instead You May Have 3
Or 4 Pair. Blue-White Blue--Orange-White
Orange--Green-White Green--Brown-White Brown So Here Is
A Break Down Table For You. Just Run A 4 Conductor Phone
Wire From Your Alarm Panel And Use RED-GREEN To The
Street And The Yellow-Black To Any Of The Phone Lines
You Want To Interrupt With The Alarm System
| Standard RED-GREEN Line-1 |
Blue-White Blue =Line 1 |
| Standard YELLOW-BLACK Line-2 |
Orange-White Orange-= Line 2 |
| RJ HOOK UP = Either
Red-Green Or Blue Pair To Street Phone Box
Terminals By Themselves. Then Take Your
Yellow-Black Or Orange Pair And Splice Into Them
Into Any Line To The Right That Has Dial Tone
IE: Your Phone Number You Have Removed From The
Phone Box . |
Green- White Green= Line 3 |
| Brown-White Brown=Line 4 |
The Following Steps Will Show You How To
Install Your RJ-31X Jack.
-
Run A New 4 Conductor Phone Wire From Your Alarm
Panel To Your Main House Phone Block
-
Disconnect Your Wires That Go To Your Phones In The
House.
-
Connect You Red And Green Wires From Your RJ-31X
Jack To The Telephone Block That Your Phone Wires
Used To Be Wired To. Thus Dedicating Dial Tone To
Your Security System First.
-
Connect Your YELLOW & BLACK OR What Ever Second Pair
You Used From Your RJ-31X To The Telephone Wires You
Removed From Your Telco Company Block.
-
Connect Any Other Of The Wires That Went To Your
House Phones To The Yellow And Black OR Second Pair
That's Running Back To Your Alarm Panel So They Are
Now On The Other Side OF The 4 Pair Wire You Brought
From Your Alarm Panel.
-
You Can Also Connect House Phones At The RJ31X Jack
Brown Grey-Yellow Black Also, Just As Long As The
Red Green Are The Only Pair Of Wires Going To Your
Street Side Phone Box Or DSL LPF200 Filter Screws As
Shown Below.
- NOTE: The Same Applies Even If You Connect Your Alarm To Just 1-Telephone Jack In The
House. Just Remember That Most RJ-31X Jacks Have Brown & Grey In Place Of Yellow &
Black. Then Remove The Jack Wires From The Back Block And Connect Them To The Second Pair
From The RJ-31X Jack.
- NOTE: If You Loose Dial Tone At Any Time, All You Have To Do Is Unplug The Wire From Your
Security System To The RJ-31X Jack. This Will Disconnect Your Security System From Your
Telephones And Allow The RJ-31X Jack To Act As The Switch Instead Of The Security System.
- This Allows You To See If The Security System Is Locked Up Preventing Your Telephones From
Working OR If Your Telephone Company Is Having Problems And Not Giving You Dial Tone To
Your House.
- You Are Done: Now Your Security System Will Act As A Switch, Disconnecting Your
Telephone's In The House From Your Security System.
-
Another Trick Is To Take A Pair Or Wires From The
Alarm Panel Any Zone And Run It All The Way Through
Wrapped Inside The Telephone Companies Box And Cap
Off That Pair And Make That Zone A 24 HR AUX Zone,
-
This Way If They Do Cut The Wires In The Telephone
Box They Are Probably Going To Cut That Pair And
Your Siren Will Go Off Preventing The Burglars From
Further Intruding Your Home.

Here Is Another Way.
Starting outside your
house.
1st) Make note*
of, and then disconnect the two wires that are currently connected to the red
(copper colored) and green screws within the telephone company's utility box (usually
mounted on the outside of your home). *Make note of which
wire color was connected to what screw color. Original
connection was____________ to red, _____________ to green.
2nd) Using standard
telephone line (housing two or three color coded pair of wires within a plastic
sleeve), begin a new connection (using any two of the new telephone line's 4-6
individual wires) from the red and green screws within the telephone company
utility box, and run this new line to the RJ31X which should be situated within your
home/adjacent the alarm system's control panel.
New connection
is ___________ to red, ____________ to green.
3rd) To connect
the RJ31X.
Remembering the 2nd
note to yourself re: colors & corresponding screws...
Connect the wire color you
choose (in #2) to run from the red screw outside, and attached that
wire to the screw within the RJ31X that comes with a red wire
already connected to it. Do likewise for the color that had been connected to
the green screw outside.. attach it to the RJ's internal screw with the green wire
connected to it already.
4th) Completing the loop.
Choose two new wires within the line you've run between the RJ31X and the telephone
company's utility box. Attach one to the screw within the RJ31x that has a gray wire
attached to it. Attach one to the screw within the RJ31x that has a brown
wire attached to it.
(Write down these Final
loop color matches ________ to gray, and _________ to brown).
Last step.
Back outside in the
telephone company box, splice together and secure the latest (final) wire
color selections (the ones you just secured to the brown and gray fixed screws in the
RJ31X) to the following. The one you attached to the brown wire in the RJ,
splice to the line you originally (#1 above) removed from the
red (or copper colored) screw. The one you attached to the gray wire in the RJ31X, splice
to the wire you originally removed from the green screw.
You're done. The alarm
system now has the primary telephone line connection in your home.
